Yarra Centre Learn To Swim

Endorsed by Royal Life Saving Victoria the Yarra Centres Aquatic Education program - Swim and Survive presents a unique opportunity for students of all ages to develop skills and share experiences in Aquatic Education. Essential elements of our aquatic education program include physical, intellectual and personal development with classes focusing on stroke development, water familiarization and safety in and around the water.

We aim to

  • Reinforce positive values through co-operation, respect, adventure, goal setting and enjoyment.
  • Provide intellectual challenges through problem solving, decision making and self-confidence.
  • Provide physical challenges through skill acquisition, exercise and stroke development.
  • Promote confidence and understanding in the water. 

Yarra Centres lessons start for babies of 6 months old right through to private adult classes. Children's lessons are 30 minutes long and run in the mornings, after school and on all days of the week except Sunday. Adults lessons are taught one on one and are 45 minutes in length. All our lessons are taught in either our heated program pool or 25 metre pool by qualified and experienced instructors.

Lesson Types

Baby Play

Baby Play is a water familiarization class designed to introduce children to kicking, floating and submerging with an emphasis on fun and water exploration. These classes provide a chance for parents or guardians to share in the fun and joy of your child's Aquatic Education experience. Classes are run Monday through Saturday between 9:00am and 12:30pm.

Pre School

Pre School classes are designed to develop essential Swim and Survive skills as outlines by the AustSwim guidelines of infant aquatics. Run on Monday through Saturday between 9:00am and 12:30pm Pre School classes are aimed at ensuring a basic knowlege of water safety.  

School Aged

At a time when your child is starting to actively and independently enjoy the water School Aged classes cover stroke techniques including Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly and Survival Strokes while promoting an understanding of the importance of safety in and around the water. School aged classes run Monday through Friday between 3:45pm and 6:00pm and Saturdays between 9:00am and 12:30pm.

Adults

While many have the benefits of learning to swim at a young age Yarra Centre offers beginner and intermediate lessons for adults who have little or no swimming experience. With classes designed to teach basic stroke skills and technique our adult lessons are run one on one Fridays 7:00am through 9:00am or on Saturdays at 8:00am.

* Note: Swimming parents of Aquatic Ed students pay casual entry fee
